"As women of the church, in union with the spirit of Christ, we dedicate our lives and our gifts to the ecclesiastical mission, the mission of Jesus, by living the gospel message in community."
                                           - Constitutions and Directives, Sisters of St. Francis, Clinton, Iowa

The Vowed Members of the Clinton Franciscans make the public vows of chastity, poverty, and obedience and rely on their liberating power to sustain us in our mission. Our religious profession enables us to respond to the needs of others through compassionate service.

It is a sacred promise to live for God alone, to serve God's people and to live our lives according to the Third Order Rule of St. Francis.

Through the vow of chastity, we choose Jesus Christ to be our first love.  This choice frees us to meet the challenge of loving every person.  Jesus Christ is the model of that freedom which governs out relationships and directs our choices. (Sisters of St. Francis, Clinton Iowa, Constitutions and Directives, No.11)

Through the vow of poverty, we choose dependence on God for who we are and what we have.  As we receive with gratitude the treasure that is Jesus Christ, we forego the independent use and disposal of material goods.  This choice frees us from dependence on status and wealth to share in the riches of Christ as we respond to the needs of the church and of the world. (Sisters of St. Francis, Clinton Iowa, Constitutions and Directives, No.16)

Through the vow of obedience, we choose to submit our energies, our talents and our entire lives to the guidance of the Holy Spirit. This choice frees us to continue the mission of Jesus.  (Sisters of St. Francis, Clinton Iowa, Constitutions and Directives, No.26)

As of November, 2015, there are 55 Vowed Members of the Clinton Franciscans.
