Sojourners
A Sojourner is a Catholic woman or man who chooses to live a non-vowed, yet deeply committed, relationship with the Clinton Franciscans for three years.
A Sojourner lives in a local community wherever possible, making prayer and faith sharing a priority, embracing a simple way of life, fostering relationships of mutuality, sharing his or her gifts to build up the reign of God, and expanding his or her knowledge of scripture, theology and the Franciscan way.
A vowed member of the community is appointed by the President and Council as a Companion to the Sojourner. This Companion walks with the Sojourner during the process and stays in contact on a regular basis.
The Elements of the Sojourner Relationship include:- Residing with Clinton Franciscans whenever possible
- Praying and sharing of faith
- Attending regional meetings and annual retreat when possible
- Living a life that reflects Gospel values
- Embracing the mission and chapter commitments
- Engaging in a ministry of service
- Studying Franciscanism, scripture and theology
The process for becoming a Sojourner involves both informal and formal steps. These include participation in community events, discernment discussions and exploration, as well as a written application including letters of recommendation.
