The
heart of our Franciscan charism, our corporate mission, is active
nonviolence and peacemaking.

Commitment Statement
2004-2008
We Commit
ourselves to our corporate
mission
of active nonviolence and
peacemaking
as a way of life
As
members of a global community, we
witness
our Franciscan spirituality of
contemplation,
compassion,
celebration,
courage
and
connectedness with all
creation.
We
make all decisions, both personal and
corporate,
in light of the following:
What
will this choice do to and for
poor
and marginalized
persons,
the
earth,
and
the feminine.
We choose to nurture intentional relationships within our community and all of creation
- by advocating for families, women and children, and the elderly
- by working to end the use of language and actions that fuel hostility, misunderstanding, fear, hatred, and the denial of the human and civil rights of anyone, especially gay, lesbian, bisexual and trans-gendered persons
- by intensifying our connectedness and shared ministry with the Clinton, Iowa, and the Chulucanas, Peru communities.
- by tithing our time and resources, both personal and corporate
- by working for systemic change through greater involvement in the political process
We choose to nurture the feminine in ourselves, in all women and men, and in all creation
- by expanding our images of God
- by living more fully in body, mind and spirit
- by acknowledging sexism in the Church and society and by working toward its elimination
We choose to expand our circles and share the fire of Francis and Clare
- by witnessing to contemporary Franciscan spirituality
- by strengthening and widening the avenues of public witness to peace and active nonviolence
- by remaining open to the voice of the Spirit, inviting others to share our life, and tending the fire of possibility as we actively plan for our future.
