
New councilors bring varied gifts, experience to leadership role
During the 2004 General Chapter, the Sisters of St. Francis, Clinton, Iowa, elected a new council to lead the congregation for the next four years.
The new leadership team includes:
Marilyn Huegerich OSF, retiring president, noted that these sisters "were elected for their ability to lead and to meet the needs of governance at this time as well as their availability to participate fully in the work of leadership and to affirm the direction in which the congregation is moving."
The new team assumed office on September first.
| Jan Cebula osf, President, is a lawyer who worked with Legal Aid in Kansas City, Missouri., and coordinated the Clinton Franciscan "Center" for Active Nonviolence. Jan led a workshop at last winter's annual Social Action Leadership Training workshop in Newton sponsored by the four dioceses of Iowa, and in March was the Lenten speaker for Prince of Peace Parish, Clinton. She has ministered for 23 years in Kansas City and has a long association with Holy Family Catholic Worker House there. | |
| Paschal Hocum osf, Vice President, is now the administrator of The Canticle, the home of the Clinton Franciscans. For 24 years she was with the Franciscan School of Theology in Berkeley, Calif., in various capacities including serving as registrar and as director of spiritual formation. From 1958-1980, Paschal taught math at Mount St. Clare College, now The Franciscan University of the Prairies, Clinton. | |
| Martinelle Bonnell osf, Councilor, is the Associate Principal and Academic Dean at Regina Dominican High School, Wilmette, Ill. Martinelle’s professional career has spanned the educational gamut. She holds degrees in English, Counseling, and Administration of not-for-profit institutions from St. Louis University; Northern Illinois University, DeKalb; and the University of Notre Dame, and a Ph.D. in Higher Education. She served as Academic Dean and Vice President of Mount St. Clare College (The Franciscan University of the Prairies) before moving to the Chicago area. | |
| Ruth Cox osf, Councilor, is currently adjunct faculty at Kirkwood College, Cedar Rapids, where she teaches in the Nursing Science Division. Last summer, she concluded a 27-year tenure as administrator of The Alverno Health Care Facility, Clinton. She is the former chair of Clinton’s Mount St. Clare Speech and Hearing Center Board of Directrs and serves as a Trustee of The Franciscan University of the Prairies, Clinton. |
